Bokshi.

October 2025 promises to be a month to look forward to, as the Razor Reel Flanders Film Festival presents the Belgian premiere of the much-discussed Indian film Bokshi by director Bhargav Saikia. Saikia was already featured at Razor Reel ten years ago with his short film Awakenings, and now his feature debut Bokshi will take center stage.

The film had its world premiere earlier at the IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam), where it stood out for its unique blend of folk horror, ecological themes, and feminine mythology. During Razor Reel, Bokshi is also nominated for the Young Blood Award, a prize for the most promising debut feature.

At its core is Anahita, a young woman struggling with the loss of her mother who, during a trip, slips into a world of rituals, shadow symbolism, and a strange, Neolithic force. Filmed in Nepal and the breathtaking forests of Sikkim and Assam, the film steadily builds tension: visually rich, slow-unfolding, and infused with a fictional language (Boksirit) specially created for the film by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen.

With its 142-minute runtime, Bokshi continually invites reflection—on loss, identity, oral tradition, and the power of female lineage throughout history. It promises to be a remarkable experience — especially with the director himself in attendance.
