Belgium may not be the largest film-producing country, and certainly not in the genre film sector, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t strong talent on offer. In fact, we are seeing more and more filmmakers who don’t just flirt with genre films—they fully commit to them. The major titles you might know can probably still be counted on one hand, but don’t be fooled: there is a whole host of filmmakers ready to follow in their footsteps with impressively crafted (short) films.
Belgica Obscura is the brainchild of curator Wesley Remory, who, together with the regular selection team, presents a Belgian program featuring a short film block moderated by Tim Maerschand as well as several standalone titles.
