The Razor Reel Flanders Film Fest has been a member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) for over 10 years. MIFF is a close-knit network of 33 fantastic film festivals from 22 countries, with a combined worldwide attendance of more than 800,000 visitors, making it a vital economic and cultural force in the world of fantastic cinema.
The mission of MIFF is to promote European fantastic film productions throughout Europe and across the globe. The Federation accomplishes this through its network of festivals in Europe, its supporting members in Asia, North America, and South America, and its Méliès awards that recognize outstanding European genre films.
The festivals serve as important platforms for genre films in their respective regions. While they all collaborate closely within the Federation network, each festival maintains its own diversity and unique artistic identity through distinct programming choices, including selections for the Méliès competition.
As a MIFF member, Razor Reel annually organizes the Méliès d’Argent competition for the best European fantastic short film. This competition recognizes quality and creativity and generates unique visibility for the films and their directors. The winners are showcased by all festivals within the Federation, including supporting members, encouraging worldwide distribution.
Furthermore, each winner of a Méliès d’Argent competes for the prestigious Méliès d’Or Award.
The Méliès d’Or Award stands for quality, creativity, and imagination.
