Razor Reel opens with the South Korean film Colony and closes with the Indonesian film Ghost in the Cell

BRUGES – Razor Reel Flanders Film Fest has announced its opening and closing films for 2026. The festival will open on 29 October with the Belgian premiere of Colony**, the new film by** Train to Busan** director Yeon Sang-ho, which premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival. On 7 November, Razor Reel will close with the Belgian premiere of Ghost in the Cell by Joko Anwar, which premiered at the Berlinale.

From 29 October to 7 November 2026, Bruges will once again be dominated by horror, fantasy and science fiction for ten days. With the announcement of the opening and closing films, Razor Reel has now revealed the first two major titles of its new festival edition.

Colony opens Razor Reel with its Belgian premiere

On 29 October at 8.00 pm, Colony will officially kick off Razor Reel 2026. The film is the latest work by South Korean director Yeon Sang-ho, who made his international breakthrough with Train to Busan. Colony premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival. Belgian audiences will see the film for the first time at Razor Reel.

When a mysterious, rapidly mutating infection breaks out during a biotechnology conference, a skyscraper is hermetically sealed off. Those present find themselves trapped as the threat becomes increasingly dangerous and unpredictable.

What follows is an intense struggle for survival, in which Yeon Sang-ho once again interweaves horror, action and science fiction.

Following the screening, Razor Reel 2026 will be officially opened with an opening reception.

Ghost in the Cell is the closing film

Razor Reel has also chosen a Belgian premiere for the closing night. On 7 November at 8.00 pm, Ghost in the Cell by Indonesian director Joko Anwar is on the programme. The film had its international premiere earlier this year at the Berlinale.

Panic breaks out in the notorious Labuhan Angsana prison when prisoners are brutally murdered and left behind as macabre works of art. According to a clairvoyant, a vengeful spirit is behind the murders, targeting above all those with the darkest souls.

For the murderers, thieves and con artists behind bars, there is only one option left: suddenly, they try to do good deeds and cleanse their karma as quickly as possible.

Joko Anwar turns this absurd premise into a bloody and claustrophobic comedy, in which supernatural terror, black humour and social commentary constantly clash.

Following the closing film, Razor Reel brings the festival edition to a festive close with an after-party.

From Cannes and Berlin to Bruges

With Colony and Ghost in the Cell, Razor Reel immediately puts two internationally acclaimed titles centre stage. Both films were screened earlier this year at leading film festivals and are having their Belgian premieres at Razor Reel.

In doing so, the festival offers a first taste of the 2026 edition, which will once again bring a wide selection of horror, fantasy and science fiction to Bruges: from major international titles to quirky discoveries and films rarely seen on the mainstream cinema circuit.
